On May 13, 2020 the Orillia Business Women’s Association (OBWA) will celebrate the Nelle Carter Woman of the Year and Lisa Brooking Young Woman of the Year with their annual Awards Gala and are looking to you to submit the names of incredible women within the community.

The Woman of the Year Award is given to someone respected for her outstanding work in her community, in the workplace, at home, or all three.

The Young Woman of the Year must demonstrate high scholastic achievement, participation in extra-curricular school activities, volunteer work in the community and be seeking post-secondary education. One nominee from each of the three schools is chosen from the student body by staff members.

We are very excited to celebrate this annual event.

Our emcee will once again be Carey Moran from Pure Country 106 FM

The Woman of the Year award is named for the late Nelle Carter who was an inspiration to women in our area. She was president of the family business, president of the Orillia Quota Club, the first woman elected to Orillia Council as Alderman and active in St. Paul’s United Church. The recipient of the award represents Nelle Carter’s high standards and values.

Nominees for the Nelle Carter Woman of the Year Award may be from any of the following areas: City of Orillia, Township of Ramara, Township of Oro-Medonte, Township of Severn and the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.

This is your opportunity to nominate a woman who, in your opinion, meets the criteria in both her business/volunteer and personal life, who demonstrates leadership in ideas and new initiatives or has done something in particular with respect to any of the above activities which would make her a “Woman of Distinction”.

They are now accepting Woman of the Year nominations and you can download the form from their website. The nominations close March 31, 2020. If you would like more information you can contact the OBWA at [email protected].

Mark May 13, 2020 in your calendar and join them at the Best Western PLUS Mariposa Inn & Conference Centre, 400 Memorial Ave. Orillia, to show your support for these phenomenal women from Orillia and surrounding area.

Tickets are $60 each and will only be available online on their website. There is no reserved seating, so get there early!
