TEDxOrillia is gearing up for a second successful event and is now accepting sponsorships and applications to speak at the event.

The 2020 event will focus on the theme of “insight” and will take place on Oct. 4, 2020, at The Orillia Opera House.

“Last year’s event was a tremendous success. We were fortunate to have so many innovative members of the community take part and speak about transformation,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “I know that I and many in the audience left the event feeling inspired. I cannot wait for TEDxOrillia 2020!”

TEDx is an independently organized event. TEDxOrillia is supported by the City of Orillia and organized by Rick Talbot, a local author and former theatre producer. Orillia’s inaugural TEDx speaker series was held in 2019 and featured a line-up of 11 speakers and performers, including special guests Bob McDonald and Charles Pachter and a diverse group of local speakers.

The licence for the first event was capped by the TED organization at 100 audience members; however, this year’s event has an unlimited capacity so organizers are hoping to sell over 700 tickets to the 2020 event.

“This year’s TEDxOrillia theme will be Insight, said event co-organizer, Rick Talbot. “We’re looking forward to engaging speakers who can share their experience and insight with our attendees, so attendees can expand their knowledge base, and hopefully be inspired to enact change when they leave the event.”

TEDxOrillia is accepting sponsorships for the event, and speaker applications. A team has been established to review the applications and select a speaker panel which aligns with this year’s theme, and includes a diverse range of perspectives.

The TEDxOrillia team anticipates that speakers will be announced and tickets will go on sale by May 2020.
