“Working in Conservation has been a lifelong dream, but I struggled to find opportunities to build experience as a newcomer to the field and someone beginning work after disability. The Pathways to Employment program let me be part of an incredible workplace where I got to contribute to the protection of natural areas, gain hands-on experience with community engagement, and grow as a person with the guidance of fantastic mentors!

After beginning work at The Couchiching Conservancy as a Community Engagement Ambassador, I was excited by how much I had to learn, and how many different pathways were available in the field of conservation. Thanks to the Pathways to Employment program, I was able to graduate to a new position at The Conservancy, and gain invaluable experience seeing the process of conservation in action. The knowledge, generosity, and excellence of everyone at The Couchiching Conservancy made this an unforgettable experience.

I am incredibly grateful to Katie Maracle, whose kind support and facilitation of this program changed my life and provided me with priceless opportunities when I needed them most. The skills, experience, and connections I made through this program have now allowed me to begin work at a Conservation Authority, where I am very excited to continue connecting communities with the conservation happening near them.

The Pathways to Employment program empowered me to pursue the career of my dreams, and I am so grateful to know it exists in our community to do the same for other youth!” – I. McEwen
