Learn more about the grants available through the 2020 Downtown Tomorrow Community Improvement Plan (DTCIP) Grant Program at a community workshop on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 from 4 to 5 p.m. live online.

The DTCIP encourages growth in Downtown Orillia by providing grants designed to stimulate development to offset costs related to façade improvements, signage, feasibility studies, building improvements and the creation of residential units.

“The DTCIP grant program gives business owners, tenants and residents in the project area financial support to carry out transformations in the core of our City that bring a lasting return on investment,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Now more than ever it is important to support local. Small businesses are vital to Orillia and these investments help create jobs, promote accessibility, and attract residents and visitors alike.”

To date, 45 applications have been approved and for every $1 the City has invested in the DTCIP grant program, approximately $16 has been invested by the recipients.

“While this year has truly been unprecedented, we continue to be inspired by the investments businesses and entrepreneurs are making in our community,” said Laura Thompson, Senior Manager of Business Development. “As of August, commercial building permit values were up 10 per cent over the year to date, and based on inquiries the City has been fielding, we’re hopeful to see this development activity continue into 2021.”

Community members are invited to attend the online workshop to learn about the project application process, eligibility, timelines and more. This workshop will allow potential applicants to fulfill their need for the mandatory pre-consultation, which is required in order to be eligible for the program. Please RSVP at orillia.ca/downtownCIP by Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020.

Grant decisions for the second intake deadline for the 2020 DTCIP Grant Program were announced in July, and projects from prior years continue to be finalized.
