Last week, the Orillia Area CDC hosted its annual Lunch ‘n’ Learn, Show Up & Stand Out: The Business of Being Seen, bringing together local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders for a day of connection, inspiration, and practical learning. The day began with an interactive networking session led by Sarah-Jane VandenBerg, Owner of The Career Growth Company. Through fun and practical activities, Sarah-Jane guided participants in exploring networking with intention, while emphasizing resilience, adaptability, control, and growth. This session set a high-energy tone for the day and sparked meaningful connections among attendees.
More Than a Headshot: Owning Your Business Image
Lynda J. Chan, Owner of Lynda J. Chan Photography, reminded participants that a headshot is more than just a picture, it’s a powerful part of how you present your business. Lynda encouraged attendees to embrace being seen and to project confidence. She shared her expertise as a professional photographer, showing how her coaching process builds both strong images and self-assurance.
Unleash Your Inner Innovator
Innovation took center stage with Leo Chan, Founder of Abound Innovation Inc. Leo inspired the audience to look at the “who, what, why, and how” of innovation, and most importantly, to see themselves as capable innovators. His talk challenged everyone to embrace creativity and explore new possibilities in their work and businesses.

Closing out the speaker lineup, Risha Yorke, Owner of Yorke Motivational Consulting, guided participants through Personality Dimensions® to better understand their communication styles. She highlighted how differences in how we share and receive information can create both challenges and opportunities. Attendees left with new tools, tips, and strategies to improve communication with colleagues, clients, and partners.
