tools 1 1024x683 - 5th Annual Explore the Trades Event

The OMA and ODCA, in a continued response to help build the local skilled trades’ workforce have partnered with Orillia Area Secondary Schools to organize the 5th Annual Explore the Trades Event. The trade show style event is being held on March 19, 2019 at Twin Lakes Secondary School. This event provides an opportunity for local secondary students to explore opportunities in the trades at a time when they are trying to determine which career path they should take.

This is a great opportunity for students to get firsthand knowledge of potential careers in Skilled Trades positions locally, in both the Manufacturing and Construction sectors.  The exhibitors are encouraged to dress the part and to bring parts, components, finished products, engaging displays and interactive tools to make the experience for the student’s one that will hopefully leave a lasting impression.

Companies may even be looking for apprentices or part-time help?
Last year relationships were forged and some students are now doing co-op placements or working part time for some of the employers.

This event is not a job fair, the event is to provide an opportunity for students as young as grade 7 to have a chance to get to know the opportunities available in Skilled Trades right here in our town with the intent that they may gain some valuable information which will help them realize and implement their goals.

Explore the Trades will be open to the students from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Local organizations will be on-hand to provide information on scholarship and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as supplementary learning and training possibilities.

Cost of participation is nominal $40 per member, and $60 per non-member.
The fee includes lunch for two exhibitor staff as well as a table and chairs.
If additional lunches are required, they are $8.00 per additional person.
Set up time is 8:30 am to 9:15 am

We encourage you to participate in this exciting event, for more information please contact Stephanie Stanton
